Maroussi upsets Aris in Thessaloniki
Maroussi provided the sole upset in the basketball A1 league’s opening round of quaterterfinal playoffs on Saturday with a 72-61 win against Aris in Thessaloniki. Another win tonight, in Game 2, would secure Maroussi a surprise semifinal spot. As expected, Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, which respectively captured first and second places at the end of the regular season, both picked up wins in their opening games. Panathinaikos was not troubled by Olympia Larissa for its 74-55 home win. Olympiakos thrashed visiting AEK 92-62. In the other quarterfinal, host Panionios overcame Panellinios 83-70. Playoff action for all four encounters continues today.
