Olympiakos to file defamation case against AEK

Olympiakos and AEK soccer clubs appear set for a court battle after the Piraeus club disclosed that it was suing AEK chairman Demis Nikolaidis and Brazilian star Rivaldo for 5 million euros. In a statement, Olympiakos lawyer Panayiotis Michaliolas said that the Super League champions were seeking damages for defamation the club believes was committed by the AEK pair. The controversy revolves around private comments made by Nikolaidis and Rivaldo to AEK players at the end of the season. According to reports, both men suggested that AEK were the true champions and that Olympiakos and its president Sokratis Kokkalis denied AEK of the title due to a technicality that led to a reversal of Olympiakos’s loss at Apollon Kalamaria. AEK have not issued any official response to Olympiakos’s intention to sue.
