A solid Beijing test for Devetzi
Up against formidable competition at the women’s International Gala track and field meeting in Athens today, Piyi Devetzi, a silver medalist in the triple jump at the 2004 Olympics, said she expects the event to be a good test for her Beijing Olympics preparations. Competing in the long jump at this event, Devetzi’s opposition includes Tatyana Lebedeva and Tatyana Kotova, the gold and bronze medalists respectively, at the Athens Olympics. Katerina Thanou, the 33-year-old sprinter who was banned for two years after missing a drugs test before the Athens Games, will also be competing.
