The first tournament of the Hellenic Masters Beach Volleyball championship on Myconos ended with wins for Koutroumanidou/Tsiartsiani in the women’s event and Michalopoulos/Xenakis in the men’s. Thanasis Michalopoulos and Manos Xenakis defeated Georgios Knapek and Panayiotis Mourt-zios by 2-1 sets in the final (18-21, 21-16, 15-10) at the Kalo Livadi beach on the Aegean island. In the women’s final, the national team of Thalia Koutroumanidou and Maria Tsiartsiani, who have also secured their participation in the Olympic Games, got the better of Athina Dilaveri and Areti Teza – last year’s winners on Myconos – with a score of 2-0 sets (21-18, 21-15). «The quality of the Masters tournaments in Greece has risen significantly. There are now several teams that have improved,» commented Koutroumanidou after picking up the gold medal. The next tournament will take place this weekend (June 27-29) at the Tsilivi beach on Zakynthos.
