Two victories and one loss for Greece in European League
The Greece men’s volleyball team scored two wins and one defeat in the second round of games for the European League held last weekend in Larissa, central Greece. On Thursday Greece saw off Portugal 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-17), fielding a slightly stronger side than the one that had lost two matches and won one the previous weekend in Slovakia. The mighty Netherlands proved too strong for Greece on Friday, beating the hosts 2-3 (21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-17), while on Saturday the Greeks defeated Slovakia 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21). Greece is now second in its group table with nine points, while the Dutch lead with 12 points. On Saturday national coach Alekos Leonis confirmed he is quitting the national team to join Panathinaikos for the next two years.
