Rower Yiannis Tsamis banned for six months
Rower Yiannis Tsamis has received a ban of six months for a doping offense. The national rowing federation decided yesterday to punish the Greek champion in double skulls for testing positive for a banned substance last April at a random test held by the Greek anti-doping agency. The sample’s examination showed he had used Finasteride, which he claimed he took for medical reasons. The 22-year-old has suggested that the substance was an ingredient in a shampoo he used against hair loss. His exclusion from all competition is valid until October 21. Outsider Tsamis had won the gold medal at last year’s European Championship and had been certain to qualify for the Olympics.
