Maroussi signs Greek American Pat Calathes

Saint Joseph’s Hawks former star Pat Calathes will play in Greece for Maroussi basketball club for the next three years. The northern Athens side, which this season will also compete in the Eurocup, has already received the player’s signed contract and announced the transfer of the Greek-American forward yesterday. Club president Aris Vovos decided the deal could be an exception to the club’s original budget and proceeded to buy the 22-year-old as he is considered to be particularly talented. At 2.09 meters, he will be an imposing figure in the new season for the club that narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Euroleague last June. Maroussi officials believe Calathes is a player who can evolve into a big star in the coming years, hence the relatively long duration of the contract signed. The ex-NCAA star is the elder brother of Nick Calathes who competes for Florida. Major Greek clubs such as Panathinaikos and Olympiakos have already started courting the youngster of the Calathes family.
