League leaders gaining an edge in basketball’s A1
Panathinaikos and Olympia-kos were the only teams to double their wins in the second round of basketball’s A1 division. The champions had no problems beating Kolossos 66-92 in Rhodes, while Olympiakos played behind closed doors, due to a penalty carried over from last season, but managed to defeat Aris 74-57. Aegaleo scored a hard-fought win over host Maroussi (66-72), which illustrates that the western Athens club could become the surprise team of the season. PAOK scored its first victory, beating Trikala 66-77 in the first ever A1 match held in the Thessaly city, while Panellinios dismissed visiting Olympia Larissas 82-60. In the closest contest of the weekend, AEL downed its visitor, AEK, by the smallest of margins (63-62). The match between Panionios and Kavala was called off as Kavala has not yet received a permit to play in the top division, which has also resulted in the entire A2 division championship being suspended until further notice.
