AEK elects president next month

With the resignation of AEK chief Demis Nikolaidis on Sunday night, the soccer club decided yesterday to defer the election of his successor to next month. In the meantime, he will be replaced by the two vice presidents of the club, Takis Kanellopoulos and Nikos Koulis. The governing board met yesterday to elect a new president but «finding the appropriate successor is not something that can be resolved within a few hours,» read the statement that was issued, before adding that there will be a new meeting toward this end in a month’s time. Kanellopoulos has been widely seen as the face of the club over the last couple of days, although shareholder Nikos Notias is emerging as the future strongman for AEK. Greece tickets The Hellenic Football Federation announced yesterday that it has started to sell tickets for the friendly game Greece will play against World Champions Italy on Wednesday, November 19, at 9.30 p.m. at the Karaiskaki Stadium in Neo Faliron.
