Komotini test of strength

The 2008 World University Weightlifting Championships began yesterday in Komotini, northeastern Greece, and are scheduled to end on Friday. Held at the Higher School of Physical Education of the Thracian town’s Democritus University, the event anticipates the participation of 35 countries, with hundreds of athletes from all over the world. This is the first time such a championship has been organized. Pyrros Dimas, the new president of the Hellenic Weightlifting Federation, is reportedly attending the event. Dimas has been pleased to see all entrants passing doping tests, during a year in which the sport in Greece was plagued by the doping scandal involving 11 national team athletes. Admission to the championship is free for all.
