Iraklis shows off winning ways

Champion Iraklis scored an emphatic 3-0 win over EA Patras away last night to catch up with its beaten opponent in third spot in the volleyball league table. Iraklis gave fans a glimpse of its impressive performances in Europe this year, where it remains unbeaten in the Champions League. It thrashed EA Patras 25-20, 25-13, 25-19 and looks well set for the final eight of the Cup competition this weekend, also in Patras. In other games played yesterday, Aris showed it is far stronger when playing at home as it beat visiting Lamia 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23) and rose to sixth in the table, while Kifissia took a major step toward staying up as it dismissed Finikas Syrou 3-0 at home (25-22, 25-16, 25-18). On Saturday Panathinaikos maintained its two-point lead at the top by defeating Milon 3-0 away (25-20, 28-26, 25-17). Olympiakos also won away, downing Apollon 3-1 at Kalamaria (28-26, 25-21 23-25, 25-22), but did not impress with its performance and could have easily dropped one more set that would have deprived it of a crucial point. The most exciting match of the weekend was undoubtedly that between bottom side Ethnikos Alexandroupolis and struggler PAOK, which finished 3-2 in favor of the Thessaloniki club (21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-8).
