PAO dismisses PAOK

Panathinaikos had an impressive performance at the Olympic Stadium in Maroussi last night, beating PAOK 3-0 and leapfrogging its opponent in the standings. The Greens are now second in the standings, 12 points away from leader Olympiakos, who downed Panthrakikos 2-0 in Komotini. Loukas Vintra scored the first couple of goals early in the second half, both times via headers, with Vangelis Mantzios heading in the third later on. These were the first goals PAOK had conceded in an impressive seven-and-a-half games. Olympiakos scored twice in the first half over Panthrakikos through Fernando Belluschi and Luciano Galletti, the league’s top scorer. The champion needs another 16 points out of the remaining nine games to clinch yet another title. Larissa and AEK were locked at 0-0 at the 89th minute, but finished 1-1 after Larissa led through a Giorgos Fotakis screamer and AEK went back on level terms a minute later through a Rafik Djebbour shot. New signing Libor Dosek scored a hat-trick upon his debut for Xanthi, leading the Thrace club to a 4-0 home win over Levadiakos. OFI recorded a precious 2-1 win at fellow struggling Thrasyvoulos Fylis, which saw a late penalty appeal turned down. In the other games: Aris defeated Panionios 1-0, Iraklis moved further away from the relegation zone with its 1-0 away win over Ergotelis and Asteras Tripolis took a breath of fresh air as it downed second-bottom Panserraikos 3-0 at home, with Marcelao scoring twice. Olympiakos leads the standings with 54 points from 21 games, ahead of Panathinaikos with 42, PAOK with 40 and AEK with 35. Aris and Larissa have 31, Xanthi and Panionios are at 28, Panthrakikos and Iraklis at 25, Asteras Tripolis moved to 23, Ergotelis also has 23 and Levadiakos remained at 22. In the drop zone, OFI has 17, Panserraikos 15 and Thrasyvoulos 13.
