Olympiakos seals perfect season in Greek water polo

Olympiakos completed its third water polo double in a row on Sunday after beating Panionios 12-5 at home in the third game for the league finals. The Reds eventually won the final series 3-0 and thus managed to clinch the league title without even drawing a match, let alone losing one, during the entire domestic season. They had also beaten Panionios in the cup final. Both clubs will play in next season’s Euroleague. This was Olympiakos’s 22nd overall league title and their 10th in the last 11 years. Panionios put up a fight only in the first period, when the score was 2-2, but then the hosts became ruthless in both attack and defense to lead 6-3 at halftime and eventually crush their opponents 12-5. In the battle for Greece’s third place in the Euroleague, Vouliagmeni leads the best-of-five series 2-1, having won twice at NE Patras. Today will see Game 4 of the series, which could be the decider.
