One win in two games for men
The rejuvenated national volleyball team had one win and one loss to show after its first couple of games against Belgium at home last weekend for the European League. On Friday, Belgium won 3-1 (25-22, 35-33, 20-25, 25-23) despite the 31 points scored by an impressive Apostolos Armenakis for the home team at Orestiada. On Saturday, though, an improved Greece overturned a 2-1 deficit to win 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11). «We have to learn how to win. Every victory has its importance,» said experienced setter Sakis Psarras. The national team’s next games will be against Romania on June 13 and 14 in Kalamata, in the Peloponnese. In the same competition, the women’s national team suffered its sixth loss in as many matches as it went down 3-1 to Bulgaria (25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17), also at Orestiada, on Saturday. A day earlier, it had lost 3-2 (25-11, 25-27, 23-25, 25-9, 15-10) to the same opponent. In club volleyball, newly promoted AEK announced its agreement with Olympiakos setter Sotiris Tsergas and Iraklis’s Brazilian outside hitter Denison Sena da Conceicao.
