Vouliagmeni’s Euro triumph

Vouliagmeni won the women’s European Super Cup in water polo on Saturday, defeating Russia’s Shturm Chehov 11-6. The southern Athens side, European champions since last April when they won the LEN Champions Cup, had no problems facing their visitors and managed to win the first trophy of the new season in Europe. Coach Alexia Kammenou’s players confirmed their superiority with an emphatic win, which was celebrated in style by the players and fans at the Lemos swimming center in Vouliagmeni. The Russians took a 3-1 lead at the start but from then on they were unable to match their hosts, who swam away with the victory in the second half by scoring seven unanswered goals.
