Panellinios dismisses Panionios in basketball

While basketball leaders Olympiakos and Panathinaikos were to fight it out for supremacy at the local league late last night in Piraeus, the other games played over the weekend offered fans plenty of excitement. Panellinios scored an emphatic victory at home over Panionios (77-63), which has pushed it up to the second spot of the table, alongside the losing side of last night’s derby. Maroussi recovered from its string of losses in the last few weeks and defeated newly promoted Ilisiakos 75-65 at home. Kavala showed it will be a very tough nut to crack for all opponents for one more season, as it dismissed visiting PAOK 75-70 in front of a capacity ground at the Kalamitsa court. Kolossos confirmed its strength at home with its 77-61 victory over AEK, which had previously shown some signs of recovery from its negative start to the season. Aris had no problems with visiting Trikala, winning 81-66, but Olympia Larissas seemed to have finally created a credible side as it got the better of this season’s surprise-package Peristeri. The Larissa team won 73-67 at home.
