New faces in Greece squad
Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has invited Stelios Malezas of PAOK and Yiannis Maniatis of Panionios to join the national soccer team for the first time, for the friendly match against Senegal tomorrow in Volos. The two defenders form part of the squad announced on Sunday. They join another debutant, Pantelis Kapetanos, whose name was announced a few days earlier. The squad consists of: Goalkeepers Alexandros Tzorvas (Panathinaikos), Michalis Si-fakis (Aris) and Costas Halkias (PAOK); defenders Vangelis Moras (Bologna), Sotirios Kyrgiakos (Liverpool), Loukas Vyntra, Nikos Spyropoulos (both Panathinaikos), Yiannis Maniatis, Giorgos Tzavellas (both Panionios), Avraam Papadopoulos, Giorgos Galitsios (both Olympiakos) and Stelios Male-zas (PAOK); midfielders Costas Katsouranis, Lazaros Christo-doulopoulos, Giorgos Karagounis (all Panathinaikos), Alexandros Tziolis (Siena) and Grigoris Makos (AEK); and strikers Angelos Charisteas (Nurnberg), Fanis Gekas (Hertha), Pantelis Kapetanos (Steaua), Giorgos Samaras (Celtic) and Dimitris Salpigidis (Panathinaikos). Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Sotiris Ninis, Costas Mitroglou and Vassilis Koutsianikoulis joined the Under-21 team instead and will play a crucial qualification game in England tomorrow.
