Glorious celebration for champion Panathinaikos
Soccer champion Panathinaikos celebrated in style the conquest of its eighth league-and-cup double on Sunday evening. The awarding of the league trophy in front of some 55,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium of Athens was preceded by an unprecedented friendly match between mixed teams consisting of current Panathinaikos players and some of its best veterans. The spectacular evening was also lit by fireworks and laser beams. Separately, one of the champions, striker Dimitris Salpigidis, revealed yesterday to fans that he is moving back to PAOK this summer, as had been widely expected. He stressed that the move is due to personal reasons and he is absolutely satisfied with Panathinaikos. «It may be an error in judgment professionally, but I have to leave,» said the Greece forward who is returning to his native Thessaloniki.
