Jimenez arrives and takes over at AEK for next two years

New AEK soccer manager Manolo Jimenez arrived in Athens on Saturday, greeted by a warm reception from several of the club’s fans at the airport, an illustration of the huge expectations AEK has from the Spanish coach. The ex-Sevilla manager signed his two-year contract on Saturday and directed his first training session at the AEK training center yesterday, in the presence of about 50 AEK fans as well. The Spaniard, who is expected to host a press conference today, was quite cautious in his first words as AEK’s gaffer, avoiding any promises of titles and trophies. «I am very happy to be here. I did not expect such a reception,» he said at the airport. «I hope I do not let all these people down. I shall give 100 percent of myself and do everything I can for AEK,» added Jimenez. He has asked for a house in the eastern Attica town of Spata, close to AEK’s new training center that is set to start operating at the end of this month. AEK’s next game is on Sunday at Aris for the Super League.
