Season is over for Marcos Baghdatis

The season is over for Cypriot tennis star Marcos Baghdatis after a recent shoulder injury. The world’s No 20 player pulled out of the Basel tournament that started on Monday and will not take part in the tournament in Paris either, owing to pains in his right shoulder. His physiotherapist recommended two weeks of rest in order for a more serious injury to be avoided. «I am sorry to miss Basel. My season is coming to its end, as I will not enter the Paris tournament due to my shoulder,» Baghdatis said on Twitter. He received the shoulder injury last week in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Vienna against Michael Berrer. Originally the Cypriot had been considered fit to face outsider Stephane Bohli in the first round at Basel but Baghdatis has decided to stay on the safe side and rest before the start of the new season in the southern hemisphere with the Australian Open in January. Meanwhile, Greek tennis champion Lena Daniilidou fell two places in the WTA ranking, placing her at No 162 this week.
