Green victory over CSKA in basketball

Panathinaikos returned to winning form in basketball’s Euroleague last night, defeating the once-mighty CSKA Moscow 72-68 in Russia. The Greens had desperately needed a win after going down to Valencia at home last week, and managed to pull it off in the end, though they had fallen behind in the last quarter. The players of coach Zeljko Obradovic dominated play during the first 30 minutes of the game, even leading by 10 points (52-42) halfway through the third period. Panathinaikos now has five wins from seven matches and is on top of its pool. An excellent Dimitris Diamantidis scored 17 points for the Greens, while Stratos Perperoglou added another 12. Tonight Olympiakos is hosting Germany’s Brose Baskets Bamberg, who had beaten the Reds at home. The Greeks are on a four-two record and will stay on top with victory at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (at 9.45 p.m., live on NET).
