OPAP confirms fixing suspicions

OPAP gaming company is to submit to judicial authorities the findings of its investigation into betting patterns confirming that at least two soccer games from last are suspect for having been fixed, Kathimerini understands. The suspicious matches are a cup game between Agrotikos Asteras and Kavala, and the second-division game Ethnikos Asteras vs Pierikos; both took place in the fall of 2009. OPAP informed the prosecutor investigating the case of possible match-fixing that both games may well have been manipulated, basing its conclusions on unusual betting sequences before the matches and confirming the suspicions originally recorded by European soccer’s governing body, UEFA. The continental federation included these games on its list of suspicious matches, which also contained four other games on which OPAP had blocked betting before kickoff. These are the Panthrakikos vs PAS Yiannina game from last season’s Super League, as well three matches from the second division in 2009: Diagoras vs Ethnikos, Diagoras vs Kallithea and Kavala vs Agrotikos Asteras.
