Music and dance for the festive season at the Athens Concert Hall

The Athens Concert Hall is ablaze with decorations. Above the trees flanking the marble entrance, banners flutter in the breeze, reminding passers-by and holidaymakers on Vassilissis Sofias Avenue about the extraordinary program the Concert Hall has arranged with the help of its sponsors for its young friends and the adults accompanying them. «Once upon a time with the Camerata» offers musical treats – Prokoviev’s «Peter and the Wolf» and Thanos Mikroutsikos’s «Tell Me a Story.» On December 22, 23, 28 and 29 at 6 p.m. in the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall, the Friends of Music’s Camerata will play for children. Eirini Inglesi will take the part once played by Dimitris Horn, and the young actor Gerasimos Gennatas will read a fairy tale by Selma Langerlef adapted by Maria Papayianni. The sponsor is EFG-Eurobank Ergasias. Travel with Antoine de Saint-Exupery on «Night Flight» with «The Little Prince,» also at the Mitropoulos Hall. Directed by Thomas Moschopoulos and Zoe Kafantzi, with music by Tassis Christoyiannopoulos played by the Orchestra of Colors and conducted by Miltos Loyiadis. Performances are on the 22, 23, 27 and 28 December at 8.30 p.m. The sponsor is the National Bank of Greece, which will also bring us the romantic ballet «Giselle,» with choreography adapted by Leonidas de Pian from the classic 1841 choreography of Coralli and Perrot. Dancing the role of Giselle is 23-year-old Svetlana Zaharova, in her second appearance at the Concert Hall (Friends of Music Hall, December 22, 23 and 25-30). For young film fans, there will be screenings of the best musical cartoons in eight classic films from the golden era of Hollywood (Mitropoulos Hall, 8.30 p.m., December 25, 26, 27, 29 and 30), also sponsored by the National Bank of Greece.
