Musical poetry night

The poetry of some of Greece’s leading writers is being married to the music of another great artist, Mikis Theodorakis, in an event to be held tonight at the Technopolis arts complex, organized by the Athens Municipality. The second and last of a two-night concert that started yesterday with a tribute to the poets Tasos Leivaditis and Manolis Anagnostakis, tonight’s performance is dedicated to the great Greek poet Yiannis Ritsos, whose profoundly human poetry represents the spirit of optimism in post-World War II Greece. The concert will start at 8.30 p.m. with the talented young vocalists Dimitris Bassis and Costas Thomaidis interpreting Romiosyni, which lauds the fighting spirit of the Greeks. Next, Maria Soultatou will replace Thomaidis alongside Basis to perform Epitaphios, one of Theodorakis’s most celebrated works, while the program will end with Calliope Vetta, Soultatou and Thomaidis joining forces in Lianotragouda. Throughout the show, the popular actor Yiannis Bezos – who is best known to the Greek public for his humorous roles on television sitcoms though he is also an acclaimed singer who has worked with Theodorakis for several years now – will narrate excerpts from the poetic works being performed. -In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T Crude Baltic for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 4, discharging USAC at W/S 157.5.
