Young filmmakers of short and long features at Larissa festival

Featuring 17 short and 23 full-length feature films in two competition sections, the 11th Mediterranean Festival for Young Filmmakers will unfold in Larissa from April 4, while the period beginning on March 31 (to April 3) will be dedicated to pre-festival activities. For the first time, this year the festival’s two international sections will be on equal terms: Each section’s winning film will receive the festival’s Golden Horse award, which is accompanied by a 1,500 euro cash prize. The festival’s honored guest this year is Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi, who will receive an honorary Golden Horse for his contribution in film during a special tribute, which will include a screening of his 2000 «Life As A Fatally Sexually Transmitted Disease.» The film has never been shown in Greece before. Running parallel to the festival’s events is a concert by celebrated Greek composer Mimis Plessas on April 4, an exhibition of award-winning works in Eleftherotypia’s comics competition (at the Municipal Music School) as well as a show featuring works by local artists which will take place at the Hajdiyianneio. Participating in the short film competition section will be films from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, the USA, Norway, Mexico, Sweden, Britain, the Czech Republic, Greece, Brazil, Hungary and Canada. Besides all the young directors’ films in competition, organizers have also scheduled screenings of films by accomplished directors. These are Michael Winterbottom’s «24 Hour Party People,» Raul Ruiz’s «Savage Souls» and Pandelis Pagoulatos’s «Sweet Dreams.»
