Greek fashion to team up with music in MadWalk

Just as a good beat is the perfect embellishment for any catwalk show, stylish attire adds to all live music performances. Now the worlds of Greek fashion and music are merging in an orchestrated manner through MadWalk, a fusional event at the Fencing Hall in Elliniko, on Wednesday, February 2.

Organized by local music TV channel Mad and Vodafone mobile telecommunications, the event will feature live performances by Greek acts decked out in local designer fashion coupled with runway presentations.

Covering the gamut of the local music industry, from pop-laiko representatives like Despina Vandi and Giorgos Mazonakis to less mainstream alternative rock choices such as Matisse, MadWalk also covers good designer ground, ranging from the forward-looking take of Yiorgos Eleftheriades to the relaxed elegance of Celia Kritharioti. It will also include an appearance by Mary Katrantzou, a Greek-born, London-based designer who has been making the international fashion headlines for a while now.

While the organizers hope the event will be the first of many, this inaugural MadWalk comes with a charity angle, with part of the proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the activities of the Elpida association.

At the Fencing Hall next week, MadWalk will give designers and artists an opportunity to come together through mutual creativity: Apostolos Mitropoulos teams up with Elena Paparizou, Celia Kritharioti with Sakis Rouvas, Deux Hommes with Giorgos Mazonakis, Yiorgos Eleftheriades with Mironas Stratis and Ilia Darlin, Mary Katrantzou with Matisse, Mi-Ro with Onirama, Orsalia Parthenis with Melisses and Vrettos Vrettakos with Despina Vandi. The live performances are ?curated? by fashion editor Michalis Pantos and choreographer Konstantinos Rigos.

Heralding next week?s event, a MadWalk Street Party will take place on January 27, at the Marc by Marc Jacobs boutique store at 3 Xanthou Street in Kolonaki, starting at 7 p.m.

Madwalk?s 25-euro tickets are on sale at Metropolis (54 Panepistimiou
