A double bundle of joy as Natasha Karamanli, wife of ND head, delivers twins

The stork arrived after midnight on Thursday at the Iaso Clinic, with the help of doctors Thanassis Paraschos and Professor Bondis, Natasha Karamanlis’s personal physician from Thessaloniki. The first of the twins, a 2.47-kilo girl, was born at 1.13 a.m., and the second, a boy weighing 2.45 kilos, arrived a minute later, who will naturally be named Alekos Constantine Karamanlis after his paternal grandfather. Costas Karamanlis was by his wife’s side during the birth by Caesarean section. Everything went smoothly; mother and babies are doing well. The father, happy and relieved, stayed with Natasha until 4.10 a.m. before heading home. Early the next morning, he was back at the clinic, now surrounded by reporters and cameramen. «Natasha and I thank you all. The three of them are doing fine,» was his brief statement. The eighth-floor ward was soon full of flowers delivered by the truckload, and later taken on to the couple’s home in Rafina. In Karamanlis’s home town of Proti, Serres, in northern Greece, women were handing out sweets from their doorways and men were drinking to the babies’ health and that of their parents. Celebrations were also held in Epanomi, Thessaloniki, where Natasha grew up. The family is expected to go home next Tuesday or Wednesday, when a photograph of its new members, born under the sign of Gemini, with Pisces ascendant, is expected to be published. Our best wishes are with them all.
