Technopolis gears up for a summer of live music and festivals

The Technopolis cultural complex in the central Athenian neighborhood of Gazi will be hosting a rich program of live music this summer.

This year’s opening concert on Monday, May 26, features local acts Encardia, Martha Frintzila, Miltos Paschalidis, Locomondo (photo), Gadjo Dilo and others. Profits will go to the Schedia Greek street magazine in support of the homeless and long-term unemployed.

Hip-hop act Active Member follows on June 18, with celebrated chanteuse Dimitra Galani taking the stage on June 25, folk singers Eleni Tsaligopoulou and Melina Kana on July 2 and 2Cellos, consisting of young cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, on July 15. After a hiatus for the August summer holidays, Cretan folk band Hainides will be performing on September 1, followed by acclaimed Greek vocalists Sokratis Malamas (8/9) and Eleftheria Arvanitaki with Alkistis Protopsalti (11/9).

Meanwhile the 14th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival opens its doors on May 29, featuring four days of concerts by acts including Hungary’s Egy Kiss Erzsi Zene, Israel’s Tamuz Nissim, the Dutch Rembrandt Frerichs Trio and Austria’s Lylit-Loscher Duo among others. Admission is free.

The En Lefko Festival, organized by the radio station of the same name, returns for the second year in a row on June 20-21 with Simple Minds, Κaruan & Band, Boy George, Gramatik and Nick Waterhouse on its lineup.

In addition, Technopolis will be hosting the 3rd International Circus and Juggling Festival on June 6-8, choreographer and director Gustavo Russo will be presenting the “Tango in Red Major” show on July 17, and the 10th Video Art Festival is slated to begin on October 2.

Innovation hub

InnovAthens is a new initiative aimed at new entrepreneurs, providing networking services and mentoring by specialists. Free lectures, workshops, conferences and innovative exhibitions and presentations will be held every week until the middle of July, at the Industrial Gas 2 hall. Attendees can book individual or group meetings with business consultants. The event’s program includes an open discussion on the future of startups (28/5), a presentation of business activity in China (17/6), the 1st Conference of the European Federation for Young Entrepreneurs and much more.
