Art and fun for children

The Hellenic Children’s Museum, located in a neoclassical building in the center of Plaka, continues its program of educational courses for children this year. These classes contain fun activities and help familiarize children with the museum environment by integrating the skills they learn into the broader framework of art production and art history. On an even more entertaining note, the museum holds a party for its young art lovers on the last Sunday of each month. This week’s program is composed of classes on masks and mask-making for Saturday, and on Sunday, the focus turns to disguises – a topical project considering the start of the Carnival season. On January 31 and February 1, 7 and 8, the museum will hold classes on pebbles and mosaics, followed on February 29 with a tribute to ancient civilizations. March deals with spring themes in art throughout the month, while April looks into professions of the past and present and early May (2, 8, 9) will explore the world of science with the class «Physics Experiments» – a theme repeated on May 23 in «Games with Water.» May 15 and 16 are special days as kids join the worldwide activities of National Museum Day. The remaining classes of the spring-summer 2004 period are all about fun, starting with classes on magic tricks on May 22, 29 and 30, games with water on June 5, 6, 12 and 13, and ending on a tasty note with the classes «Refreshing Summer Recipes» on June 19, 20, 26 and 27.
