Familiar and melodic sounds of the Balkans

The familiar, warm, melodic sounds of the Balkan region bring the official program of this year’s Athens Festival to an end tonight and tomorrow. The music of the Sultans mixes with touches of contemporary jazz, beautiful Bulgarian vocals, Serb brass instruments and the music of the Roma. At the Herod Atticus Theater, leading Greek vocalist – and Middle Age, Renaissance and Baroque music specialist – Savina Yiannatou and her ensemble Primavera en Salonico will share the stage with Burhan Ocal and the Istanbul Oriental Ensemble, as well as the Angelite Bulgarian Polyphonic Vocal Ensemble, conducted by Valentin Velkov, and the Gold Melos Brass band, led by Bojan Ristic. «The Sound of the Balkans,» at the Herod Atticus Theater, tonight and tomorrow. Performances start at 8.30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Hellenic Festival Box Office (39 Panepistimiou, tel 210.928.2900) and the Herod Atticus Theater Box Office.
