Giorgos Babiniotis, dean of Athens University, honored by French State

“Greece-France-Alliance» is the slogan that has united the two countries since Greece entered the great family of Europe and which was first heard during the visit to Greece of the then president and great philhellene Valery Giscard d’Estaing. It is a concept that has indeed been strengthened since the arrival in Greece a year ago of Ambassador Bruno Delaye. Yet another bridge between the two countries was the award announced on October 1, 2004 of the French Education Ministry’s Ordre des Palmes Académiques to Athens University Rector Giorgos Babiniotis for his contribution to expanding bilateral relations between France and Greece in the areas of science, language and culture. Meanwhile, it was announced that a «Modern Greek Grammar» is to be published, the result of collaboration between Babiniotis and the Paris V Rene Descartes University and its professor of linguistics Christos Clairis.
