‘Artstars’ in Cultural Capital ’07

Eleni Christodoulou and Savvas Christodoulides will represent Greece and Cyprus respectively in the large exhibition that is to take place in Luxembourg, organized by the ON25 Luxembourg-based cultural company, to celebrate the city’s appointment as Cultural Capital of Europe for 2007. The exhibition, which is titled «Artstars,» includes works by artists from all member states of the European Union, all based on the same idea put forth by the exhibition’s organizers – that of creating works related to European community issues. The proposals from Greece and Cyprus come from the DESTE Foundation and are presented by curator Effie Michalarou. In his work, Savvas Christodoulides uses color to suggest cultural variety and difference within a unified Europe. His work revolves around the well-known debate of whether cultural and social unification is possible considering the existing differences. Christodoulou, who repeatedly uses geometrical shapes in her work as a painter, is concerned with the symbolic connotations of being a star. The exhibition will be presented at the Abbaye de Neumunster in Luxembourg and will tour Belgium, France and Spain as well as other European countries.
