Art, technology team up for culture

The Hellenic Culture Organization is looking for new ways to promote its policies. A new project, «NetOdyssey,» unveiled recently by the organization’s president Stamatis Mavros, is an attempt to develop an international Internet platform linking culture to new technology, in a reflection of our times. New blood What is particularly welcome about the move is that this is perhaps the first time that representatives of the younger generation have been invited to participate in the creation of a public vehicle of information. The maiden plan for NetOdysse» has just been introduced through an international Internet competition of digital films and videos. Titled «Micropolis,» the competition aims at attracting participants from professional and amateur fields alike. Practical info The site, www.netodyssey.gr, provides the background as well as the necessary practical information for those wishing to participate. Before the deadline for applications expires (20 January 2006), the site will become interactive, offering visitors the opportunity to view digital works. Among the various prizes to be awarded will be one voted on by the public. The jury selection points to a genuine attempt to make the most of people in the know: There’s Nikko Patrelakis, Constantinos Beta and Yiannis Nenes from the music field, Dodo Santorinaiou of the Fournos arts complex, film director Loukia Rikaki, Videodance’s Christiana Galanopoulou, Vassilis Karamitsanis of Platforma, Nikos Nikolaidis of the Network for Audiovisual Education, Effie Chalivopoulou of Artbox, Vassilis Charalambidis of Bios, Panteion University lecturer Dimitris Charitos and Ilias Hadjichristodoulou of the Athens Videoart Festival.
