New editions, and a prize

Kedros Publishers is releasing a new edition of Menis Koumandareas’s novel «The Handsome Captain.» First published in 1982 and now in its 13th edition, the book has become a modern classic. It depicts the fate of a young officer who emerges from the dark world of military machinations into the halls of justice at the Council of State, and who forms an unusual bond with a judge. This tale of corruption and perishability has been translated into French and German. In 2001, it won the Blue Book Prize at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Translation prize The Italian Foreign Ministry has awarded the 2005 Translation Prize to Greek publisher Metaichmio for Anna Papastavrou’s translation into Greek of Alberto Moravia’s «Stories from Prehistory.» The book, which is for children aged 8 and over, contains inventive myths where animals are the heroes. It is set in the dawn of creation when all the world was new. Interactive guide Going to Crete?
