Fighting breast cancer in the city of Athens

The posters are already in view on central city avenues and major streets, while municipal health centers are welcoming women for free-of-charge breast examinations. During a month-long campaign dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, the Municipality of Athens has joined forces with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Greece (FTBC), in an effort to increase awareness and prevention. Besides the posters and free breast exams, women around the city will also find reading material at special campaign kiosks. World campaign The Greek leg of a global campaign initiated by Ralph Lauren in 1989, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer is an active organization with a mission. Its profits from T-shirts and other apparel, for instance, support the Prevention Control Program at the city’s prevention center. Athens Mayor Dora Bakoyannis presented the center’s results at a recent press conference yesterday, while singer Elena Paparizou of Eurovision fame – also present at the press conference – unveiled a billboard campaign in which she sports FTBC’s ubiquitous T-shirt. Coming up on October 20, a group of women are scheduled to present FTBC T-shirts to Parliament Speaker Anna Psarouda-Benaki and female MPs. Sponsoring the multifaceted October campaign are Eureka, Eurobank’s Euroline and Delta. For more information visit www.ftbc.gr.
