Established social communication codes inspire dance performance

Mariela Nestora’s contemporary dance company Yelp is staging a solo dance performance – «Faux pas – Comme il ne faut pas» – at the 417 venue in Kerameikos until Sunday. The show, which runs for a limited time and opened earlier in the week, is about «things we accidentally do in front of others and about the power that expected behavior codes have on us.» «Faux pas» performed by Katerina Bella, is «a new and crude solo which communicates a person’s uniqueness in conjunction with what is socially acceptable. The expression ‘faux pas’… describes all kinds of behavior which is not socially acceptable,» said choreographer and Yelp’s founder Nestora. «Faux pas» was first presented at the Months of Dance Festival and more recently it was performed at Thessaloniki’s Videodance Festival. The sets and costumes are by Antonis Volanakis and the music is by Ilios, Plaid and Remote Control. The direction and the video are by Stefanos Potamianos and the video montage is by Louizos Aslanidis. The shows take place with the support of the Raymond and Isadora Duncan Dance Center. For the duration of the performances, a photography exhibition by Maria Mitzali, titled «As It Should Be,» is on display at the venue. Shows start at 9.30 p.m. The 417 venue is situated at 53 Kerameikou & Myllerou, behind the IKA building on Pireos Street. Advance booking is necessary by tel at 210.341.7304.
