Elton John sings for children at Versailles

The invitation says it all: «Sir Elton au Chateau de Versailles.» Sir Elton John owes his title and his popularity to his philanthropy, his work in the fight against AIDS appearing in galas in London and New York. He has also played a prominent role in the philanthropic work carried out by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who was a personal friend. Now it is the turn of Paris, where Sir Elton will play at the «International Night for Childhood» being organized by the president of the Fondation pour l’Enfance, Madame Valery Giscard D’Estaing, wife of the former French president. Among the guests in attendance will be the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and Madame Jacques Chirac, wife of the current French president. Naturally, Sir Elton John will be offering his services free of charge in a performance of one-and-a-half hours, to be followed by a black tie dinner in the palace. In the grounds of the palace, guests will place a gift at a floodlit tree for children who will receive no other gifts at Christmas time.
