Anna Vissi to take part in fund-raiser

Ten local non-profit organizations and foundations providing care and welfare to underprivileged children will hold a fund-raising concert featuring the best-selling pop singer Anna Vissi at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on March 3 at 7 p.m. Both the venue and artist are offering their services free of charge for the event. The agencies, which have been collaborating together as a network named Together for the Child since 1996, each offer specialized services in a variety of fields, including education and professional training for disabled youngsters; care for mentally challenged children; psychological support for children with serious health problems and/or living in unfavorable family environments; counseling for single mothers; and day-care centers. All told, these 10 agencies currently cater to the needs of over 2,000 children. According to the network, state subsidies are being provided in support of its overall efforts, but more financial aid is needed. The agencies are operated by volunteers. «Our common objective is to help our fellow-man. We’re not competing against each other; we’re not practising politics; we’re not asking for projection. These children have considerable needs,» the network stressed in a press release ahead of the fund-raiser. The 10-member network comprises Elepap; the Spastic Protection Society; Paidiki Stegi; Hadjipatereio; Hara; Merimna; Friends of the Child, Young Diabetics Association; Pnoi; and Fyllosia. Tickets for the concert are available at Metropolis music stores and the venue’s box office at prices of 10, 20 and 35 euros.
