‘Superb artistry’ in jewelry at NYC exhibition

Depy Chandris chose to have her annual New York exhibition in spring. The truth is that it was New York that made her name, with its gallery owners and lively artists’ parties in the 1970s with Andy Warhol, an avowed fan of Chandris and her jewelry. She always returns there to present her latest work, inviting friends who are luminaries of the artistic and social scene for a comfortable viewing behind closed doors. «A privileged view of her ornaments» reads the glamorous invitation, to which Chandris has added, «Special thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, the National Tourism Organization and the Consulate of Greece in New York.» Her exhibition, «Baroque References and Tomorrow’s Vision,» will run for three days at the Dahesh Museum of Art in New York, in the IBM Building, 580 Madison Avenue. The opening, which is strictly by invitation only, is on May 9. Sparkling and eccentric, Chandris will mingle with her celebrity guests, showing her jewelry with its bows, flowers and space shapes in novel color schemes – 150 pieces in all. Dahesh Museum director Peter Trippi praised the «superb artistry» of her work. Among those invited are New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and tycoon George Soros. The exhibition is open to the public May 10-11. It was conceived by former tourism minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and finalized by his successor, Fanni Palli-Petralia.
