Last days to catch shows at 5th Dance Festival
A dance performance that is described by its choreographer as a lonely board game that gradually transforms into a group activity and explores human contact, «Solitaire» will be on stage at the Embros Theater (2 R. Palamidi, tel 210.323.8990) until tomorrow. Part of the 5th Dance Festival organized by the Association of Greek Choreographers, the production is by Ioanna Portolou and the Griffon dance company, an outfit that so far has produced a string of interesting shows. Portolou founded the Griffon dance company in 2000. Both her preoccupation with the human body and her interest in the visual arts led her to examine Greek choreography with greater depth. Her work always uses a feeling or an image as a starting point. A costume or even a simple sound may inspire her and develop into an entire choreography. The company’s previous production, «Fractal,» was presented at the Second Contemporary Dance Platform held at the Athens Concert Hall last February and at the Third Balkan Dance Platform in 2005. «Action xt,» an older production, was performed at Liverpool’s Leap festival and at the Greek capital’s Mad festival. This latest production features dancers Constantina Mikroutsikou, Cecile Mikroutsikou, Yiannis Nikolaidis and Katerina Skiada. The costumes have been designed by Ioanna Tsami and the sets are by Maria Vassilaki. Other shows Also tonight, Spyros Bertsatos’s Lydia Lithos dance theater ends its run at the Argo Theater (15 Elefsinion, tel 210.520.1684-5) – also as part of the dance festival – and Avgi Progidi’s Drossa Maza group holds its final performance at the Roes Theater (16 Iakhou, tel 210.347.4312).
