Liza live in the Greek capital

Liza Minnelli admits her good fortune. «I have been blessed with a talent,» she has said and, indeed, she seems endowed with a strange power that gives her passion, strength, energy and a magnetic presence: all the qualities of a true star. The star is now expected in Greece for two performances at Athens’s Herod Atticus Theater on Wednesday and Thursday. Minnelli will be accompanied by a 12-member orchestra at the Roman odeon in a program comprising a selection of her greatest hits from films such as «Cabaret» and «New York, New York,» musicals like «Chicago,» French ballads written especially for her by friend and composer Charles Aznavour, and more songs by George Gershwin, Cole Porter and others. Minnelli’s Athens performances are part of the star’s ongoing tour which began in February of this year in Munich, Budapest and Paris. The concert in Athens is a joint production by the Hellenic Festival and the Halandri American-Greek Arts Center and the American Community Schools in Athens (ACS). Ticket prices range from 25 (upper tier) to 100 euros (prime circle). Tickets can be purchased at the Hellenic Festival box office (39 Panepistimiou, in the arcade, 8.30 a.m. – 4 p.m.) or at the theater itself (9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.). For telephone reservations, call 210.327.2000. Performances begins at 9 p.m.
