Ancient Greeks and their coins

Amid a number of current retrospective exhibitions and books on the fast-disappearing drachma, Makis Aperghis, general secretary of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature is to show slides of coins from antiquity which depict the ancient Greeks’ view of the natural world with imprints of animals, birds, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, trees and shrubs. Aperghis’s lecture on «The Natural Environment on Ancient Greek Coins» is to be held at the Ionian Center, 11 Lysiou Street, Plaka, on Monday, January 14 at 7 p.m. For further information call the Society at 322.4944.
