President honors child welfare groups

Greek President Karolos Papoulias offered heartfelt congratulations to all those who make an ongoing contribution, as he said, «to bettering the lives of children who had an unlucky start in life.» Speaking at a special event at the Presidential Palace on April 14, the president reassured the presidents and board members of welfare agencies that the state «would always take the appropriate care to carry out as best as possible its basic obligations.» Among those present were MDA-Hellas President Vana Lavida, Special Olympics President Yianna Despotopoulou, Cerebral Palsy Greece President Daphne Economou, ELEPAP President Mary Karella-Diamantopoulou, Elpida President Marianna Vardinoyianni, and officials from the SOS Children’s Villages, Mitera Infants Center, the Greek branch of UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, the Child’s Smile and many others. At noon on April 24, Papoulias will lay the foundation stone in the forecourt of the Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital in Goudi for the Children’s Cancer Hospital, which Elpida and its president have worked so hard to bring into being.
