Big names at Rockwave

Some things never change, be it for good or bad. Hence this summer the Terra Vibe venue in Malakasa will once more host the Rockwave Festival, the annual music celebration which becomes a meeting point for rockers, heavy metal fans, emos, freaks and teenagers but also more mature music lovers. Starting on July 8 and running to July 10, a variety of artists will perform, ranging from Patti Smith to Manu Chao and from Cavalera Conspiracy (who have just released their album «Inflikted») to Opeth. Two stages will be running, the Terra stage (the main stage) and the Vibe stage (where the Pixies and Peter Gabriel performed in 2004). Tickets for all three days will cost 90 euros. Other than the aforementioned names, according to the festival organizers, there will also be live shows by the Offspring, Judas Priest, Siouxsie Sioux, Deus, Within Temptation, Marky Ramone, Flogging Molly and Carcass as well as local acts Locomondo and Inner Wish. More names are expected to be added to the list within the next few months. On July 10, bands from the Schoolwave Festival for school bands will play on the Vibe stage. One of the highlights will be the fact that world musician and activist Manu Chao will share the stage with poet of protest Patti Smith. The event will kick off with the California-based Offspring, who said that they have been waiting to play here for a long time. They have also expressed their eagerness to indulge in Greek food and wine. Siouxsie voiced her pleasure to be performing in Athens again, pointing out that it has been 10 years since the show with the Banshees. Her last performance here was in 1999 with the Creatures.
