Veteran politician Leonidas Kyrkos honored

People who have known Leonidas Kyrkos consider themselves lucky, according to Associate Professor Yiannis Voulgaris of Panteion University. A special event was held on Thursday at Athens’s Pallas Theater to honor the veteran leftist politician. Speaking at the event at the theater, which was filled with an audience representing the entire political spectrum, Voulgaris said that all who had known him throughout his political career on the left spoke of his politeness, gentle character, his clarity and sense of responsibility. Among the audience was a diverse group of politicians including Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, former President Costis Stephanopoulos, honorary New Democracy party president Constantine Mitsotakis, former Cypriot President Giorgos Vassiliou, former Prime Minister Costas Simitis, PASOK president George Papandreou and his wife Ada. Kyrkos founded what is now the Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA).
