Escape the city heat at the annual Rockwave Festival, now under way at Malakasa, and don’t forget your tent

Greece’s big annual rock event, the Rockwave Festival, kicked off yesterday at Terra Vibe in Malakasa. The Offspring, Marky Ramone, Siouxsie Sioux and others made a powerful start last night and will be followed by hardcore rockers Judas Priest as well as Carcass, Inner Wish, Within Temptation, Opeth, Morbid Angels and others today. The event will go out with a bang tomorrow, featuring shows by Manu Chao, Patti Smith, Musica Ficta, the Ska Bangies, Locomondo and others. All necessary information can be found on the festival website (www.rockwavefestival.gr), including where to hand in or look for lost goods. General admission costs 60 euros per day. This summer, in collaboration with Oxy Publications, the festival is preparing a book titled «My Own Rockwave,» so you can start making your own notes and then send them to [email protected]. Don’t forget that, according to the organizers, Terra Vibe has a temperature at least five degrees lower than that of the city center, especially at night. It might be a good idea to just take your tent and set it up in Malakasa for a couple of days.
