Dalaras sings Kougioumtzis

Featuring vocalist George Dalaras, the Herod Atticus Theater will be hosting two evenings dedicated to the works of the late composer Stavros Kougioumtzis this week. This is not the first time the Greek singer and UN Goodwill Ambassador is set to interpret the work of his old friend and fellow musician. The concerts, however, mark the first time Kougioumtzis’s works will be heard at the ancient theater, with Dalaras fulfilling a promise he made to his friend before his death. Of a total output of 218, 73 of Kougioumtzis’s songs have been interpreted by Dalaras. Joining the vocalist on stage on Wednesday and Thursday are Costas Makedonas, Despina Olympiou and Melina Aslanidou. The songs are arranged by Dalaras and Costas Ganosellis, while the concerts’ direction was undertaken by Panos Papadopoulos. Both concerts are organized by Mazi gia to Paidi, an umbrella organization uniting 10 charities and 5,000 children in need. For more information, call Mazi gia to Paidi at 210.748.2690. For tickets, Greek Festival box office (39 Panepistimiou, tel 210.723.4567). Prices are set at 150, 120, 60 and 40 euros.
