Greek National Theater to stage original version of Paul Claudel’s play ‘The Break of Noon’

aul Claudel’s first version of «The Break of Noon» was written in 1906, inspired by a real and tragic event that scarred the author’s life. It was only 40 years later that Claudel allowed the play to be staged – in a new version. As of this Friday, local audiences will have an opportunity to watch the original, early 20th-century «Break of Noon,» or at least a version based on the original text, by the Greek National Theater. The poetic, erotic drama of French poet, playwright and diplomat Claudel will be presented at Stage H at the Pireos 260 venue. It is directed by Jossi Wieler, who has reworked the way he staged the same work two years ago at Munich’s Kammerspiele Theater. The production stars Amalia Moutoussi, Nikos Kouris, Lazaros Georgakopoulos and Nikos Karathanos and will be staged Wednesdays to Saturdays at 9 p.m. as well as Sundays at 7 p.m. The sets and costumes are by Anja Rabes. 260 Pireos, Tavros, tel 210.483.8739, 210.330.5074. Starts at 9 p.m.
