A play of poetic loneliness

The Fasma art organization is about to stage David Hare’s play «The Breath of Life» at the Aplo Theater, directed by Antonis Antypas and translated by Giorgos Depastas. The British playwright is well-known for the adapted screenplays he has produced for the acclaimed films «The Hours» and «The Reader.» His play, «The Breath of Life,» is full of poetry and tenderness, but also pain and loneliness. It revolves around two women who look back on their lives. Its Greek premiere took place in Thessaloniki last year in a National Theater of Northern Greece production that was directed by Andreas Voutsinas and starred Alexandra Ladikou and Maria Skountzou. The current production stars Rania Economidou and Lydia Fotopoulou. «The Breath of Life» was written in 2002 and opened on October 15 of the same year at London’s Theater Royal Haymarket, starring Maggie Smith and Judy Dench. It is set to open at the Aplo Theater in Athens this Friday, February 27. Aplo Theater, 4 Harilaou Trikoupi, Kallithea, tel 210.922.9605.
