The Benaki Museum in Athens is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Ioannis Mitrakas. Taking place at the museum’s Kolonaki flagship in central Athens, the show runs through March 27. A self-taught artist, Mitrakas draws his inspiration from Byzantine and Russian art as well as Greek history and mythology. The show comprises 85 of his contemporary religious and secular artworks which are displayed alongside Byzantine and post-Byzantine works from the Benaki Museum’s permanent collection.
